The State Company Of Geological
Survey and Mining (GEOSURV-IRAQ) is tasked with all
geological surveys of Iraq, including surveys oriented
towards mineral exploration and land use which are the
corner stone for the future development of Iraq.
In order to accomplish this,
centralization of the work is no more feasible.
Therefore, the main office in
Baghdad found it necessary to establish regional
branches within the governerates to promote better
understanding and application of mineral exploitation
and land use policies on the Governorates level.
These branches will qualify
governorate to direct implementation of local programs
in accordance with Investment Law # 91 for the year 1988
and its subsequent amendments.
The regional offices
will opened in each governorate produces raw materials
and industrial rock.
The function of the regional
offices, as approved by the Board of Directors of the
company's decisions # 2/12/2006 of 2006, aims for the
following:-
1.
To coordinate the geological and
mineralogical policies with local governments and
develop raw mineral investment in the concerned
governorate, and to provide the necessary information
in coordination with Central Office in Baghdad.
2.
To supervise, direct and control
mineral investments activities by applying the
Investment Law and its amendments concerning quarries &
mines.
3.
To target development of the
mineral investment activity and evaluate the geological
information and promote of the mining projects for both
general and private sectors in the governorate.
4.
To promote and market material
produced by the company in the governorate.
5.
To establish a trend of the
scientific meetings and symposia in coordination with
local governments to inform them of their Governorates
capabilities in providing material and industrial rocks
and familiarize them with corresponding industrial
capabilities.
6.
To offer consultations and
information related to the nature of the company for the
general public and private sectors in the governorate.
7.
To supplement the national network
with the geological information of the concerned
Governorate in order to activate the mining investment
sector.
